OPELOUSAS, LOUISIANA - Pelican State Credit Union is continually investing in St. Landry Parish. Its recent three-part series of free Community Financial Wellness Workshops positively impacted over 150 of the parish’s children and adults.
Pelican first partnered with the Opelousas-Eunice Public Library to host children’s story time in July. Pelican’s Nationally Certified Credit Counselor April Gomez read The Berenstain Bears’ Trouble with Money and The Adventures of Petey the Pelican. Children and parents enjoyed pizza from Pizza Shack following a craft. Plus, all children received Pelican piggy banks, and one won a $50 Acadiana Zoo gift card.
The series continued in August with an Auto Buying Workshop at the Delta Grand Theatre. Guests enjoyed breakfast from Chicory’s Coffee & Cafe as they learned the keys to car buying success from Pelican’s Director of Financial Outreach Jessica Sharon. Pelican’s loan officers met with guests interested in getting pre-approved, and TruStage Insurance shared discounts offered to credit union members. Two guests won Mr. Bees Car Wash gift cards.
Pelican finished the series with a Home Buying Workshop in September at the Delta Grand Theatre. Guests enjoyed hamburgers from Joe’s Sandwich Shop and learned about the home buying process from Pelican’s Nationally Certified Credit Counselor April Gomez. Guests met Pelican’s Opelousas and mortgage teams, and one won a brand new grill.
All residents of St. Landry Parish are eligible to join Pelican State Credit Union.
