Have you ever wished that you could see all of your finances in one place? Now you can with My Finances, our Personal Financial Management (PFM) tool in [email protected] and PelicanMobile!

Wednesday, March 17, 2021 – We've listened to your feedback and requests for a better way to manage your financial life, and we're excited to offer a great tool to help our members achieve that. Whether you're just wanting to look at your bills and income at a glance or you're ready to assess and build your net worth, My Finances is able to help.

My Finances in [email protected]

After logging into [email protected], you'll see a tab at the top named My Finances. Click that to go to the dashboard.

From there, there are tons of things to do! You can see all of your approved transactions in each account, track spending and budgets, and set financial goals.

You're able to visit tabs for editing budgets, view a monthly cash flow calendar, track your net worth, and sign up for budget text and email alerts. This makes creating and sticking to a budget even easier!

Once you're in, click add on the left of the dashboard to begin adding any accounts, credit cards, loans or investment accounts you have from other financial institutions.

Organize Your Finances

You'll notice little blue bubbles with words like DiningoutPersonal and Utilities listed next to your transactions on the dashboard. These tags are categories for your expenses and income. You can label each transaction in whatever way is best for you.

You can search through your transactions according to the amount, location or tag.

Take some time to label your transactions correctly, because they will come in handy for your budgets!

Create Actionable Budgets

Click Budgets at the top to get started. If you're meeting with one of Pelican's Nationally Certified Credit Counselors, this would be the best place to add the amounts you discussed for your budget plan.

While some expenses like food and housing are a part of everyone's budget, no two budgets are exactly the same. Budgeting for your lifestyle is the best way to make sure you have enough to cover all unexpected or even spontaneous purchases, like seeing your favorite band when they come to town! Learn More

You can add or edit spending targets here using the tags on each transaction. You can add specific tags to each spending target, so you'll be able to separate it and have budgets for plenty of categories, including:

  • Dining Out
  • Entertainment
  • Groceries
  • Clothing
  • Personal Spending
  • and much more!

See Your Monthly Cash Flow

The Cashflow Calendar lets you set up recurring or one-time bills and income to give you a better look at your day-to-day estimated funds.

You can click on one of the days to add income or bills. For income, choose a name for it such as Salary, Paycheck or Social Security. Put in the amount you'll be getting paid and how often, and then you're set!

Income can vary greatly, especially if you have a side hustle or two! In those cases, you can set an average expected income and then edit the amount once you get paid. To add bills, you'll follow the same process as adding your income. You can also select to be emailed when you have an upcoming bill, so you don't have to worry about forgetting to pay something!

Once all of your income and bills are added, you can get a more accurate estimate of how much money you'll have after paying your bills.

Set (and Achieve) Life Goals

Whether you're saving for a new camera, vacation, home down payment or even retirement, you can add all of those life goals in My Finances! Visit the Goals tab to begin.

Hit Add Goal and follow the steps to see what it takes to achieve your goals! You can also set Payoff Goals for any debts you have. Give your goal a name, choose the account you'd like to pay off and add the date you'd like to be finished to see how much you'll have to pay each month to reach that goal.

You can check the boxes at the bottom to set up text alerts and emails to get notified when you're getting close to your goal.

Watch Your Net Worth Grow

Are you ready to monitor your current assets and debts? Visit the Net Worth section to see where you currently stand!

My Finances will automatically calculate your net worth each day based on the accounts you've added.

You can decide which debts and assets My Finances includes to calculate your net worth. Assets that you manually add, such as money you owe your parents, cannot be excluded without being deleted.

Be More Proactive In Your Financial Life

Visit the Alerts tab at the top of the page to set up individual text and email alerts relating to these budgets, letting you be more proactive and aware of how much you're spending!

You can set up alerts for:

  • Account balances
  • Spending/budget targets
  • Goal progress
  • Bill reminders
  • Large transactions
  • Merchant/store names

Did you know you can also set up account alerts in [email protected]? Simply click Settings in the main menu and then Alerts in the sub-menu. From there, you can set up text or email notifications to alert you about payment due dates, low balances and more!

What if I need help with My Finances?

You can find the Frequently Asked Questions and more on the Help tab located at the top of My Finances.

There is a built-in help desk within My Finances that goes directly to our My Finances provider, Geezeo. They will be able to help with any roadblocks you encounter. You can also submit suggestions for improvements there.

My Finances in PelicanMobile

After logging into PelicanMobile, expand the menu by tapping the three lines at the top left. 

Then, scroll down to the middle of the menu to the Tools section. Then, select MyFinances.

Here, you’ll see your MyFinances main dashboard.

You can also tap the three lines at the top left (below the app's main menu) to expand the MyFinances menu.

Spending by Category

Here, you can see which spending category you’ve spent the most in a given month.

  • Select the parts of the wheel to see other categories. Your transactions will color code and categorize themselves.
  • Select the transaction to personalize each category or split the transaction between categories.
  • When you select a transaction, you can change the name of the transaction, create a budget, or add a recurring transaction to your Cashflow Calendar.

Budgets

Monitor and track your spending, view your budget at a glance, and add multiple budgets.

  • Navigate to Budgets in the MyFinances menu.
  • If you haven’t set one yet, tap Add Budget.
  • Choose which tags, or categories, of transactions you'd like to track, enter the budget name you'd like and monthly limit, and create alerts for your budget.
  • If you have multiple accounts, you can also select which account you'd like to link the budget to. 

Goals

Create savings goals like saving for vacation or reducing your debt like paying off a credit card.

  • From the MyFinances menu, go to Goals and tap Add Goal.
  • Select your desired pay off or savings goal.
  • Fill in the required information.
  • Tap Save to complete the process of adding a new goal.

Cashflow

Bring your budget to life through the interactive cash flow calendar.

  • From the MyFinances menu, navigate to Cashflow.
  • Tap the plus sign for either Add Income or Add Bill.
  • Enter the required information and select Save.
