All members with a Pelican State CU Visa® Credit Card will receive their FICO® Score with paper and digital eStatements once per quarter!

What are FICO® Scores?

FICO® Scores are the most widely used credit scores. Each FICO®; Score is a three-digit number calculated from the data on your credit reports at the three major consumer reporting agencies—Experian, TransUnion and Equifax. Your FICO® Scores predict how likely you are to pay back a credit obligation as agreed. Lenders use FICO® Scores to help them quickly, consistently and objectively evaluate potential borrowers’ credit risk.

How do I view my FICO® Score?

If you have a Pelican State CU Visa® Credit Card, your FICO® Score will be included with your paper or digital statements once per quarter.

If you do not have a Pelican State CU Visa® Credit Card, there are several ways to review your credit. You have the right to a free credit report from AnnualCreditReport.com or 877-322-8228, the ONLY source for your free credit report. Authorized by federal law. Plus, Pelican members have access to free credit check-ups with our Nationally Certified Credit Counselors. For more information, contact us at 1-800-351-4877.

I have a Pelican State CU® Visa, but didn’t receive my score. Why?

You may not receive a score if:

  • You have previously opted out of receiving your scores. You can opt back in by using this form.
  • You are listed as a joint account holder or are an authorized user for the Visa®. The billing statement must be in your name.
  • You recently opened a new account. Scores are sent once per quarter, so only one out of every three statements will contain your score.
  • There is no score available to provide to you.

How are FICO® Scores calculated?

FICO® Scores are calculated from the credit data in your credit report. This data is grouped into five categories; below is a detailed breakdown of the relative importance of each category.

  1. Payment History - Approximately 35% of a FICO® Score is based on this information
  2. The Amounts You Owe - Approximately 30% of a FICO® Score is based on this information
  3. Length of Credit History - Approximately 15% of a FICO® Score is based on this information
  4. New Credit - Approximately 10% of a FICO® Score is based on this information
  5. Types of Credit in Use - Approximately 10% of a FICO® Score is based on this information

Why is this score different from a score that I received elsewhere?

The FICO® Score Pelican State Credit Union provides is FICO® Score 8 based on information from your Equifax credit report based on the “as of” date included with your score. This may differ from scores you obtain from other sources that may have been calculated at a different time using information from a different credit bureau or even a different score model. If you have additional questions regarding the FICO® Score model and how it’s calculated, please refer to the Frequently Asked Questions about FICO® Scores and Understanding FICO® Scores links under the “More Resources” section below.

I disagree with my FICO® Score or Key Factors. What do I do?

Your FICO® Score and Key Factors included with your Pelican State Credit Union Visa® credit card statement were provided to Pelican State Credit Union as they correspond to information within your Equifax credit report based on the calculation date (i.e., “as of” date). If you feel this information is inaccurate, you can request a free annual credit report from Equifax at AnnualCreditReport.com. If you have additional questions after reviewing, please contact Equifax at the number provided within your credit report. You will be able to speak with a representative for additional help and be sure to have the reference number included with your credit report when speaking with Equifax.
