Pelican State Credit Union Celebrates 10 Years In Denham Springs
DENHAM SPRINGS – "Since opening our doors in November 2003, the Denham Springs community embraced us," said Pelican State Credit Union's CEO Jeffrey K. Conrad. Pelican opened its first custom-built branch ten years ago on Rushing Road.
Several community leaders, Pelican members and employees joined Conrad and Branch Manager Dawn Matthews in a ceremonial ribbon cutting to celebrate the branch's anniversary and symbolize Pelican's ongoing commitment to the community.
The Livingston Parish Chamber of Commerce named Pelican's Denham Springs Branch Small Business of the Year in 2007 and Medium Business of the Year in 2012. The award recognizes businesses that provide leadership and excellence in their efforts to make the community a better place to live and work
Pelican supports several community organizations including the Antique Merchant's Association. In addition to participating in numerous community events, Pelican has hosted its FREE Kids Bike Race each year since the branch opened. The event promotes a healthy, active lifestyle and the whole community is invited to attend.
"We love being part of the Denham Springs community," continued Conrad. "Our branch has seen tremendous financial growth in the last ten years, but the opportunity to be part of such a hands-on and charitable community that truly cares about its residents and businesses is priceless."
The ribbon cutting ceremony was just one part of an all-day celebration of Pelican's continued commitment to the community. Matthews greeted each member that came in the door with giveaways and invited them to enjoy complimentary refreshments and financial literacy workshops on household budgeting. Members who visited the branch also signed a large anniversary banner and entered to win a door prize.
As part of an effort to support the young adults in its branch communities, Pelican started a scholarship award program six years ago. Since then, Pelican has granted eight $500 scholarship awards to students in Livingston Parish. Graduating high school seniors with a Pelican youth account are eligible to apply for a scholarship award.
Pelican members can also benefit from free one-on-one credit counseling and a variety of other convenient products and services. For more information, please call Branch Manager Dawn Matthews at (225) 791-5393.
