Pelican State Credit Union Turns Drive-Thru into Full-Service Branch
DENHAM SPRINGS, LOUISIANA – Pelican State Credit Union’s Denham Springs branch at 145 Rushing Road is now open! Pelican and Labarre Associates, Inc. worked together to temporarily transform the credit union’s drive thru into a full-service, convenient and spacious branch in nine short days.
The idea to enclose the credit union’s drive thru and create a full-service branch was born at one of Pelican’s senior management meetings where the team was encouraged to think outside the box. The credit union’s architecture and facility management company then brought the idea to life on a shoe-string budget with minimal materials.
Members of Pelican and other credit unions who participate in the CO-OP Branch Shared Network can access their accounts Monday – Friday from 9 am – 5 pm and every Saturday from 9 am – 1pm at the temporary Denham Springs branch. In addition to a fully-staffed team of tellers, Pelican also has several member service representatives on hand ready to help open accounts and take loan applications.
“This large, temporary space will allow us to serve the community, our members and all credit union members who are struggling to return some normality to their lives while we remodel our branch from the inside out with state-of-the-art equipment and a brand new look and layout,” said Jeffrey K. Conrad, Pelican CEO.
The 1,564 square-foot temporary space is designed to accommodate several members at once and is also able to be taken apart quickly so that the drive thru area can reopen with the remodeled branch toward year-end.
Similar to the rest of the homes and businesses in the city, Pelican’s Denham Springs branch took on three and half feet of water during the Great Flood of 2016. Additionally, 43 of the credit union’s team members throughout the area were personally affected and have joined forces to make a strong comeback at home and in the community.
“This branch is our second home,” explained Asst. Branch Manager Christian Gordon. “Our team and our members truly are family, and it felt so good to be reunited and back to business today.” During the first day back open for business, the team assisted 172 members and received 10 loan applications in addition to countless hugs and smiles.
“We’re here to help as we rebuild alongside the Denham Springs community, and we encourage everyone to stop by and visit the branch, even if it’s just to say hello,” Conrad added.
On Thursday, September 15, Pelican had free snowballs for everyone who stops by the Denham Springs branch from 11 am – 2 pm. The credit union encouraged everyone to come check out their branch and cool off with a sweet treat!
