Pelican State CU Hosts Free Financial Literacy Workshop for Alexandria and Pineville Communities

ALEXANDRIA/PINEVILLE, LOUISIANA – Pelican State Credit Union continues to raise the bar for providing free financial education to the residents of Louisiana. The credit union hosted a free Financial Literacy Workshop (FLW) for the Alexandria and Pineville communities on Wednesday, November 9, at the Westside Regional Library. Over 50 Rapides Parish residents received free financial education at the workshop.

Pelican’s Nationally Certified Credit Counselor Rhoda Hundley gave two back-to-back presentations: “Credit Score Breakdown – Understanding Credit Reports and Scores” and “Think Like a Millionaire – Saving and Budgeting for Success.”

In addition to providing free financial education to Rapides Parish, Pelican gave out door prizes and a free jambalaya dinner to all attendees. Credit union membership was not required to attend the event, receive dinner or be eligible for door prizes.

“Reaching out to our communities and sharing valuable financial information is a main focus of Pelican’s Financial Outreach team,” said Jessica Oliver, Director of Financial Outreach. “Our goal is to ensure that our members and communities are educated and informed on basic and current financial topics.”

Pelican offers free one-on-one credit counseling to all of its members. Its five Nationally Certified Credit Counselors are always happy to help members by giving them information they need budget effectively, make sound financial decisions and, in some cases, improve their credit and consolidate debt.
