Pelican State CU Hosts Free Financial Literacy Workshop for Jackson and Zachary Communities
JACKSON/ZACHARY, LOUISIANA – Pelican State Credit Union continues to raise the bar for providing free financial education to the residents of Louisiana. The credit union hosted a free Financial Literacy Workshop (FLW) for the Jackson and Zachary communities on Thursday, November 3, at the Zachary Branch Main Library. Over 40 residents from Jackson and Zachary received free financial education at the workshop.
Pelican’s Nationally Certified Credit Counselor Kimberly Gaines gave two back-to-back presentations: “Credit Score Breakdown – Understanding Credit Reports and Scores” and “Think Like a Millionaire – Saving and Budgeting for Success.”
In addition to providing free financial education to the Jackson and Zachary communities, Pelican gave out door prizes and a free jambalaya dinner to all attendees. Credit union membership was not required to attend the event, receive dinner or be eligible for door prizes.
“Basic financial concepts like budgeting, saving and credit are often not taught in schools, and many adults have had no formal training in these areas,” said Jessica Oliver, Director of Financial Outreach. “We know the need for education and affordable services is there, and we are working hard to meet it.”
Pelican offers free one-on-one credit counseling to all of its members. Its five Nationally Certified Credit Counselors are always happy to help members by giving them information they need budget effectively, make sound financial decisions and, in some cases, improve their credit and consolidate debt.
