PELICAN STATE CU OPENS TWO SCHOOL BRANCHES IN ST. LANDRY PARISH

BATON ROUGE, LOUISIANA—Pelican State Credit Union has opened school branch locations at Magnet Academy for Cultural Arts (MACA) and Beau Chene High School in St. Landry Parish to provide students with real-life financial experiences.

In September, Pelican collaborated with MACA and Beau Chene High School to establish fully functioning on-campus branches that will be student-operated. This gives students the opportunity to learn about credit union careers and receive real-life on-the-job training by the credit union’s financial experts. The credit union celebrated with branch grand openings in September to get the students excited about this new opportunity, complete with goody bags, snacks, and the opportunity to meet the credit union’s mascot, Petey the Pelican.

School Branch Grand Opening at Beau Chene High School

The partnership also allows students to take part in Pelican’s award-winning Youth Financial Education Program facilitated by their Nationally Certified Credit Counselors. The program is free for schools to take part in and provides workbooks, in-class activities, and a capstone real-life budgeting simulation at the end of the school year to set kids up for success when making future adult financial decisions.

MACA and Beau Chene High School are also participants in Pelican’s School Pride Debit Card Program. This program is the ideal, hands-off fundraising opportunity for the school to raise funds—every time any school supporter swipes their school’s branded debit card, Pelican donates funds to the school simply for the card being used.
