With our busy lives, it’s easy to make mistakes such as forgetting to deposit a check or deduct your last debit charge from your balance. A simple error or balance miscalculation can lead to an unexpected shortage of funds.

Pelican may have the solution you’re looking for with our Overdraft Privilege program. Overdraft Privilege is not a line of credit. However, if you accidently overdraw your account, we will have the discretion to pay the overdraft, subject to your Overdraft Privilege.

Pelican will not pay overdrafts for everyday debit card transactions unless you have given your consent by extending coverage to the payment of these overdrafts. Click here for more information.

How to Prevent ODP Fees

Are Overdraft Fees Getting You Down?

Reconciling your monthly bank statement against your check register as often as possible can help you prevent overdraft fees!

To reconcile your check register with your bank statement balance:

  1. Record all deposits and withdrawals.
  2. Subtract any checks that have been written.
  3. Subtract any service fees.
  4. If your account earns dividends, add the dividends to your checkbook register.
  5. Subtract all debit card transactions as soon as they occur.

When you're finished, the balance on your bank statement and in your checkbook register should be the same.

Easy access to account information can also help prevent overdraft fees. Pelican has several ways to access your Pelican account on the go:
